Summer Learning Journey W2 D5

Activity 1: On your blog, tell us all about your (imaginary) VE party. If it was me, I would invite all of my closest friends and family over to my house for a big barbecue. We would eat hamburgers and play basketball in the driveway. Some of us would probably walk to the local beach to play soccer on the beach and to go for a swim (if the weather was warm enough)!

I would invite all my family and friends. I would say bring your own ingrediants for hamburgers or sausages. I would have the party at the beach.

Activity 2: On your blog tell us which of the two styles you prefer and why. The pictures above were taken over 65 years ago! What do you think people will be wearing 65 years from now?

I love our clothes beacuse of our style I just like it.

Bonus Activity: I usually have a chocolate chip cookie with my tea. I love biscuits! What is your favourite sweet treat or dessert? Use google to find a recipe for it. Type the recipe out on your blog. Make sure you also include a picture.

My favourite dessert is chocolate mousse with a glass of milk.

Ingredients

• 225g/8oz dark chocolate
• 5 medium free-range eggs
• 100g/3½oz caster sugar
• 170g/6oz unsalted butter

Directions: 

1. Place a bowl over a pan of simmering water (the water shouldn't touch the bottom of the bowl) and gently melt the chocolate in the bowl. Remove from the heat once melted and let it cool slightly.
2. Separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. Beat the egg yolks and most of the sugar together until creamy and pale in colour (keep two teaspoons of sugar to one side for the egg whites).
3. When it has cooled slightly, whisk the chocolate into the egg yolk and sugar mixture.
4. Melt the butter in a pan over a low heat.
5. Whisk the melted butter into the chocolate mixture. If it gets too thick, add a couple of tablespoons of water.
6. In a clean bowl, whisk the egg whites and the remaining two teaspoons of sugar with an electric whisk until they're light and fluffy and hold a soft peak. Do not over-beat. The sugar will give them a gentle sheen.
7. Carefully fold the egg whites into the chocolate mixture using a metal spoon.
8. Spoon the chocolate mixture into small teacups or ramekins and refrigerate for about two hours.
9. Just before serving, top each marquise with a dollop of crème fraîche and two fresh cherries, then sprinkle with cocoa powder.

Review: I liked this beacuse we got to choose alot of things like what style we like better and what our favourite desserts is. 4.5 stars.

Activity 1: Choose two key events and find out some more information about what happened on those days. On your blog, write a short summary of two events, including the names of people involved and where the event happened.

7 April: Italy invades Albania

After the war was all about trying to make Albania apart of the Italian Empire. So the event happened in Albania 1938. The people who were in the war were Italy and Albania. But Italy had 22,000 soliders but Albania had 8,000. That isn't really fair. 

10 September: Canada declares war on Germany

After Germany invaded Poland the United Kingdom and France declared war on September 3. To assert Canada's independence from the UK. Canada accepted that they could go to war. I don't where it started but I am guessing Germany. 

Activity 2: Click on this link to find a list of VC winners. Choose one from the Second World War, and read about him. On your blog tell us about him. Who was he? What did he do to earn a Victoria Cross medal?

Corporal Leslie Andrew

Corpal Leslie Andrew got the VC award for his actions during an attack on the village of La Basseville, near Messines.

Bonus Activity: For this activity, you are going to imagine that you are just like Dorothy and that you are working as a nurse on a large medical ship.

One day you are walking along the deck of the ship when you hear a loud bang. You start to run as you see smoke coming from the far end of the ship. You run towards the room where your patients are waiting to receive treatment from the doctor. Just as you arrive at the door to their room you hear another loud bang and you... go to see what that was. You realise that you were being under attack by the Nazis. You take your patincts and hide down below. There are more gunshots everywhere. At that moment you realise that the boat is out of control. They captain must've been shot. You go up to where the captain has been shot which he has and you decide to drive the ship. You do do it and get away from the boat before anyway else has been hurt. The captain was later taken to hostpital and survived. Everyone is now calling you there hero :)

Review: WOW this one was really cool when we had to reaserch everything. I give it 5 stars.

Summer Learning Journey W2 D3

Activity 1: On your blog, please tell us what you do when you want to relax or de-stress. Do you read a favourite book, watch a favourite television show or talk to someone special?  What are your tips for dealing with stress?

To de-stress I go outside with my animals. Thet help me calmdown when I am freaking out. Once it was pitch black outside and I was really angry so I went outside with a torch and started to pat my pets.

Activity 2:Imagine that you were alive in the 1930s. What could you have done to help these families? On your blog, list three different ways that you could raise funds for families to help them buy food and clothing. Be as creative as you can with your fundraising ideas!

I don't know if this counts but if people are struggling to find jobs I would create a universety for people. I would make it so you just bring in a koha so that they aren't spending to much money on it. I would also prevent money for some people.

Bonus Activity: Imagine that you were able to travel back in time to visit a family in the 1930s. What special gifts or treats would you like to bring with you? I would likely bring blocks of Whittaker’s chocolate, bags of Jet Planes and Pineapple Lumps, healthy food snacks, clothing, and games for the children. What about you?

I would bring them new stuff that we have. Like hover boards. PHONES, well I don't know if they have phones. Anyway I would also bring them little chocolates like JAFFA LUMPS and tell them that Donuld Trump is going to take over the world.

Review: This one was really fun I liked reading about what happened in the 1930's.I give it 5 stars.

Summer Learning Journey W1 D2

Activity 1: Watch the trailer for Gold Rush. On your blog, tell us what you think the movie is about. There are no words spoken movie so you will need to pay careful attention to what the actors are doing! Do you think you would enjoy watching a silent film? Why/Why not?

I didn't really like scilent film. It wasn't really nice and I really want like talking. I don't know why!

Activity 2: On your blog, give the painting a rating out of 5 stars (1 star = terrible painting, 2 stars = pretty bad painting, 3 stars = okay painting, 4 stars = good painting and 5 stars = amazing painting). After you’ve rated the painting out of 5, tell us why you gave it that rating.

I give it a 3. There isn't anything going on. I need action in photos not like tha photo.

Bonus Activity: Imagine that you were a member of the flight crew. Write a poem that describes how you would have felt when you landed safely in Christchurch after such a long trip. Remember, there are lots of different types of poems, and they don’t all have to rhyme. You can read more about different types of poems by clicking here.

Activity 1: Use your search engine to find a picture of another famous cathedral. Post a picture of the cathedral on your blog. Underneath the picture tell us: the name of the cathedral, where the cathedral is located, when it was built, and how long it took to build.

They weren't allowed to vote beacuse men like to be incontroll of everything and women have no votes. Also men are......................

Bonus Activity: On your blog, tell us what you think of the poem. Do you like it? How does it make you feel?

The poem I read was kind of sad. Just representing what happened in the war. Very sad!

Review: This Task was really cool beacuse we got to look up things. I love reaserching our stuff.

First  I would go to Waitangi Mueseum.
Second I would go to see the preformance.
And third I would go to the Mountain Bike Park.


If I was only to chose one I would go to the Mountain Bike Track.

Bonas Activity: On your blog, write four questions that you would ask Bill Kini.

2. How many times have you one gold, silver or bronze?

Summer Learning Journey Day 4

Activity 1: I went through and my favourite song was Whakarongo Mai. I like it beacuse it is just calming.

Activity 2: Choose one game, and on your blog, tell us the (i) name of the game, (ii) the goal or purpose of the game, and (iii) two rules.

The name of the game is called Kōruru. The purpose of the game is hand and eye coordanation. 

Rules: You have to throw a Knuckle bone in the air and while it is still in the air you have to grab the rest of the Knuckle bone. 

And have fun. 

Bonas Activity: Listen to these 3 songs and rate them first to third. 

In first place is Te Matatini. I chose this because it was calming with a little bit of action. 
Second place was Te Puku o Te Ika this one was just calming at the start and I didn't really enjoy it.
And in last place is Te Iti Kahurangi It was really just action, action, action and I didn't like it.

Well this is all I really loved this activity can't wait till tommorow. :)

Summer Learning Journey Day 3

Activity 1: Would you like to be in a family of 9 siblings why or why not?

I would love to be in family of nine beacause they will always be there for you. I have a 5 year old brother and if I am drowning he doesn't care. So I would love to be in a family of nine!!

Similarities

1. Families live in both of them
2. They both have great artwork.

Differeces

1. They don't have the same building design ideas as we do.
2. They don't don't use the same stuff that we use to build houses.

I actually have two favourite foods. They are sushi and chocolate.

Summer Learning Journey. Day 1

Avtivity 1: Write 3 facts about Maui and the great fish.

1. Did you know that when Maui got angry with his brothers he clenched his fist together so hard he actually punched himself in the nose. 
2. Maui got bullied by his big brothers
3. Maui is the best fisherman ever. 

Activity 2: Write a short letter to a friend telling them about your voyage.

Bonus Activity: On your blog tell us whether you would like to be in a Waka Ama race one day. Why or why not?

I would love to be in a waka ama race. They are so much fun I have been in one before and I loved it. I would love to do it more often!! :)

Review: 

This was a real hard task but at the end I realised what I needed to write down. I also need to realise which was a fact and which wasn't a fact. Also with the letter I did it in Maori because they probaly didn't know what english was. I also loved the bonas activity. But overall I found it fun and I give it ☆☆☆☆☆ stars. 

I am so excited for tomorrow!!                                                         

Summer Learning Journey

At Paihia School the year 4s,5s, 6s, 7s and 8s are doing this thing called Summer Learning Journey. Summer Learning Journey is a website that helps kids stay where they are when they stop class through the whole holidays. So tommorow is when I start. I will be posting every week about the questions I get asked to blog about. Have a safe christmas and a happy holidays :)

Camp

On the 27th of November Te Maunga and Te Moana went to Coopers Beach for camp. It was so much fun! There were lots of cool activities like the water slide, confidence course and kayaking. We had these really awesome dorms with bunks. I was at the top bunk next to Tia, Ataahua and Tayla. We had the best chefs there who made us breakfast, lunch and dinner. We also had awesome parents who helped us with obstacles and loads of the activities.  The last day we went down for a swim at the beach. It was so warm and there was really big waves. It was a shame we had to go home. My favourite part about camp was the water slide and confidence course.

Once we got back from camp on 29th we had to create a DLO (Digital Learning Object) about it. Payton, Vinnie and I made a trailer. We added awesome effects and great sounds. I think I did well creating the trailer but I could do better by not getting caught up in awesome effects.
