Duffy Assembly

Kia Ora Bloggers. This week in Te Ngahere we had our first duffy assembly. Our special guest from another planet was named Zinkie. She talked to us about the benefits of reading. Zinkie was dressed up in colorful clothes and she had very high spirits. We had a little talk and then she gave out certificates to people who have been caught being good. In our class Rikesh & Vanya got the certificate and their books. Once that was all over we went to class and our books were distributed to us. I received ‘I Survived’ and ‘Crimewave’. They were so cool and I love the thrill I got when I read the book.

I really enjoyed reading the Crimewave book.

Gaming

Kia Ora bloggers, this week in Te Ngahere we have been learning about gaming. We had to learn what gaming is and what happens to your brain if you play to much of it. To be honest I am a gamer and I am not proud of it. You can play maybe 2 hours at the max but I reckon that is enough. Did you know that 30% of Te Ngahere gamers don’t limit how long they have on the computer so they are on it for about 8 hours. I think I do well monitoring how long I have on the computer by using a timer and I could do better by doing more read theory in my time.

Here are some facts and comments about gaming

1. Did you know that playing to many games can cause obesity, dopamine overload, depression, social phobia, poor grades and dementia. YES dementia!!!

2. Scientists say that the limit for gaming should be at least 1 hour long any longer and you might have some of those symptoms.

Hope you like it!!!

Basketball

In Te Ngahere we have been learning how to play basketball. Our coach and teacher Mr Lindsay taught us how to dribble the ball. We had to line up in groups of 3. In my group was Tayla and Tia. Once we were comfortable with dribbling with our good hand we then had to swap it to the hand we are bad at using. While I was dribbling the ball with my left hand I realised I had been using that hand the whole time. I think I did well dribbling the ball but I could do better by running or jogging and dribbling it.

Takeaways

Hi bloggers this week in Te Ngahere we have been doing some more healthy eating. This week we were learning about takeaways and the fat that comes from it. Whaea Gina would have a bottles of liquid detergent in a bottle to represent the fat. She would place a bottle of ‘fat’ and put it next to a takeaway shop. Subway was obviously the best because it has ¾ of a teaspoon full. So that is what she recommended. But the worst takeaway of all is Carl’s Junior. That has 12 teaspoons of fat. I did well listening to Whaea Gina but I could do better by not having takeaways to often. I enjoyed seeing the comparison between a healthy heart and a unhealthy heart. In the future I can use this because I now know how much fat is in my food.
